As you may remember, the Parish Council applied for Oxfordshire County Council’s 20mph project in spring 2022.

The County Council’s wider aim is to make our built environments safer and more attractive places to walk and cycle. To enable this, 20mph speed restrictions are being used to help promote alternative modes of transport for local travel. Further details on how the council is considering making 20mph the new 30mph for Oxfordshire communities can be found on OCC’s website.

The County Council is now asking for your views on the proposal to introduce a 20mph speed limit within parts of Caversfield, replacing the 30mph speed limits within the main residential area on Old School Close, Rau Court, and Thompson Drive.  Additionally – to support this proposal – a 30mph speed limit is also proposed in place of the existing 40mph on parts of Aunt Ems Lane & Fringford Road.

This will also compliment the proposed speed limit changes being put forward separately as part of the A4095/B4100 junction improvement scheme (see here for details).

The proposed Traffic Regulation Order was scheduled to be advertised in the Bicester Advertiser newspaper on Thursday 05th October 2023 and details are also available to view on the Councils consultation portal at the address below:

As stated on the notice, any objections or other representations on the proposal should be submitted by Friday 27th October 2023

Residents are being encouraged to take up the offer of a free electric blanket check as part of Oxfordshire County Council’s programme to ensure everyone is safe, as well as warm, this winter.

The electric blanket tests are normally very popular, with places limited. Therefore, they must be pre-booked by phoning 01865 895999 or emailing duty.officer@oxfordshire.gov.uk

Cherwell’s testing dates are 20 September and 4 October. The actual address and a specific time slot will be provided at time of booking.

OCC is still going ahead with their proposed changes to the Banbury Road roundabout.

They would like to hear views on a couple of specific areas – a proposed 30mph speed limit on Fringford Road together with a traffic calming ‘hump’ at the entrance to Fringford Road from Southwold Lane.
